    In fact, at a few moments in Zandonai's opera, I wondered if some of the music was channeling Tchaikovsky, like the whirlwind music for the inferno.

      Francesca.  The rest of it was sort of a pale shadow of Romeo and Juliet.

        ......in something like 3 weeks, the complete orchestral version, not just a piano score that had to be orchestrated.  So it's understandable that it might be rather crude by his standards.
