    several times, I can tell you that fresh fruit is deeply appreciated.

    Other things to expect to see: the family will be wearing socks or soft slippers, no shoes (I'm still not sure why), and small buttons covered with black grosgrain ribbon, with a cut in it. These are the equivalent of black armbands.

    Also, the men will most likely be unshaven. Not sure how observant this family is, but they generally don't shave at least until the end of the shiva period (3-7 days). Some will not shave for a month.
