  •  Thanks Claude, well I was close, sort of....... (4+ / 0-)

I had to google acequia, I wasn't familiar with that term. Very interesting.  Sounds like you are doing some good out there. I'd like to hear more about it.

That is indeed a big fellow. I remember that they were some of our biggest snakes here in the midwest, not sure if I ever saw one that big though.  I sure wish they'd make a comeback here but I'm afraid they are all gone from this area. I'll bet it's been twenty years since I've seen one. I believe that all of our snakes are in trouble here in Missouri. This past summer I saw fewer snakes of any species than I've ever seen before. We had a severe drought that may have had something to do with that but I've been watching a steady decline for years . As I said, our bullsnakes appear to be completely gone, as do the hognose and the milk snakes. I haven't seen any speckled king snakes in several years either. All of them were fairly common twenty or thirty years ago. Copper heads are still here but numbers are way down, I actually can't think of any snakes that are holding their own, possibly the common water snakes, but I'm not even sure about that. Too many people, too many cars, and too little habitat left. Very sad.

Just give me some truth. John Lennon
