  •  Which is why (at the risk of (9+ / 0-)

starting an unintended poo-flinging fest here) I'll say that this is one of the reasons why I will keep my firearms. I don't fear "the government"; I fear the corporate thugs and private armies like Blackwater being sent in to make sure the workers stay "in line". They have a demonstrated history of using violence against Labor with impunity, and right-wing hate speech is doing its best to alienate all "liberals" from the "real" Americans.

Now let the tarring and feathering begin. :-)

    •  None of it here. (4+ / 0-)

The right to bear arms in self-defense is not restricted to "against the Government", nor is all tyranny of the Government's making.

The Founding Fathers knew this better than politicians today, given that they were rebelling against a combination of corporate depredations and governmental indifference.

It's time the Left reclaimed the Second Amendment.

      •  The left isn't going to reclaim the 2nd amendment (12+ / 0-)

until and unless the RKBA people are willing and able to accept real, workable and fundamental constraints on:

        1. how many weapons they are allowed to keep
        2. where they allowed to keep them
        3. what types of weapons they can be
        4. who is allowed to sell them
        5. where they can be bought/sold
        6. etc. etc. etc. etc et fucking cetera.

The left isn't going to reclaim the 2nd amendment until and unless you can't walk off your property with a weapon capable of slaughtering 20 children in 2 minutes without the public at large knowing you have done so.

The left isn't going to reclaim the 2nd amendment until and unless it is accepted that:

        1. Nobody who is not on the job doing law-enforcement related work needs, nevermind has any right, to carry concealed firearms.

        2. It is the default that you can NOT bring your arms, concealed or otherwise, into a place of public accommodation without explicitly asking and receiving permission from whomever is in charge at the public accommodation.

        3. Etc. etc. et-fucking-cetera.

      •  Don't tell that to some RWers I know, (0+ / 0-)

who have stated - in so many words, that only the government can violate your rights or be tyrannical.

    •  No poo flinging from me (6+ / 0-)

You are exactly right, ironically it was private armies whether from the Pinkertons or the Baldwin-Felts that tried to keep the miners in line and the use of thugs to strike-break the unions in other industries.

no poo flinging from here either. Totally understand your sentiment, also I can see how the nazi's rose to power even though they weren't as popular as many think the party was.  Reichstag fire and the propaganda generated rage accelerated hitler to power.

    •  What historical precedent convinces you (0+ / 0-)

that being armed is a successful strategy for Labor?  You don't need guns to engage in sabotage.  :-)

Without a strong safety net and living wage, all labor is forced labor.

      •  But you do need guns when the private goons (0+ / 0-)

with guns come after you (because unlike the government, the Pinkertons or their modern equivalent won't have tanks and drones with hellfire missiles) and try to assassinate you in your bed at 2 in the morning.

        •  I think we've seen enough to know that (0+ / 0-)

having guns is more a psychological pacifier than a real protection for individual citizens.
