  •  After starting my career as an auditor (13+ / 0-)

intent on being an enforcer of regulation, I found out the hard way that I was on the losing side against the insiders intent on being the foxes guarding the henhouses (either only pretending to follow regulations, or working to destroy them.)   Just after I entered the accounting profession its ethics took a bad turn down the hellhole during the Reagan era and has never looked back.

corporate accounting fraud, tax evasion, banks laundering money, bid rigging, insider trading, overbilling, interest-rate manipulation, predatory lending and perjury, about Enron, World Com, Tyco, Countrywide, AIG, UBS, Tom Petters, Royal Bank of Scotland, Bernie Madoff, and more.
While a few honest accountants are out there, they're harder and harder to find.  As for me, I just didn't have enough energy to continue fighting the scum, so I left the profession I'd worked so hard for.
