  •  It's D+21 or 22 (6+ / 0-)

It is most of Portland and the eastern suburbs in Multnomah and Clackamas counties.  It's perfectly safe.

I'm grumbling a bit because, nothing against Earl (he's a good representative), but its nice to have openings in these big urban districts from time to time.  They're rare.

If there's an open-seat race (either via special election or general election), more than likely, there's going to be a multi-way Democratic primary that is tantamount to election.

Polls don't vote, statistics don't vote, history doesn't vote, yard signs don't vote...PEOPLE VOTE!!!

      •  It'd be pretty shocking if the primary isn't big (2+ / 0-)

The only other Portland based district is OR-01 and likely to be held by Suzanne Bonamici for a while.  If you're a Portland based Democrat and you want to go to the House, the open seat may be your only shot.  Maybe there's someone who could clear the field by running, but otherwise I'd expect a pretty big field.

Earl Blumenauer's 64 right now so he probably has a lot of time left in the House.

23, male, CA-18 (home and voting there), LA-01 (college).

but potentially only State Treasurer Ted Wheeler, who prior to his current position was Chair of the Multnomah County Commission.  There's talk he's running for governor after Kitzhaber is through, though, so even in the unlikely event of an opening, he may not at all be interested.

Can't think of anyone else who would clear the field.
