  •  WATN: Andy Vidak running for CA SD 16 (7+ / 0-)

I don't think this has been mentioned here before, but 2010 Congressional candidate Andy Vidak is running for the open Central Valley state Senate seat Michael Rubio has resigned from.  Vidak unexpectedly ran a close race against Jim Costa in the old CA-20, losing only about 52%-48%.

There are some other notable developments in SD-16.  Democratic Kern County Supervisor Leticia Perez is running and has picked up some endorsements from powerful state Dems.  The other major candidate is Shafter City Council Fran Florez (the mother of former Majority Leader Dean Florez).

The district leans Democratic, but turnout could always make things interesting.  Whichever Dem wins here will probably be heavily recruited to run against David Valadao in 2016 assuming he is reelected.

23, male, CA-18 (home and voting there), LA-01 (college).

Fran Florez doesn't seem so strong.  And isn't a former Fresno mayor running for the Republicans?

there's two articles in the paper version of today's paper covering in total 2 1/2 pages on Leticia Perez and her husband.  I'm thinking fran is toast already. ill link when i find it online.

      •  Do you welcome this? (0+ / 0-)

Will Perez prevent a fumble that people like the Republicans and Parra are hoping for?

as I've explained previously the bench in Kern county is going through a realignment. Though,  I am cringing about a special in the fifth supervisor district. There's already a special in city of Bakersfield ward 1 to replace Rudy Salas. which is the area in the same area as sd-16 and Perez's supervisor seat.
