  •  Steubenville has ripped open the ugliness (24+ / 0-)

of American male privilege and sexual entitlement.

A WAD of conservative values is wrapped up in this conservative media bemoaning the fate of SOCIOPATHS while a young girl is VICTIMIZED; but conservative values are ALWAYS demean the victim and align with the perptrator.

This is Conservative Values really asserting themselves.

They view women as objects for pleasure, they demean objects for pleasure because of their sick, morally-retarded views of the world and their own importance and entitlements.

this is why they have such vehement opposition to laws focused on reducing violence towards women: because they hate the female side, except for the pleasure it brings and eveything is about being able to come and go and do as they please without having to hear complaints or suffer consequneces when their actions fuck populations.

They are truly psychologically fucked up beyond all recognition.

I am happy these kids have been sentenced.

For what they did to that girl, they are lucky to be alive.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.

    •  Conservatism is about preserving the power (12+ / 0-)

and privileges of prevailing groups, regardless of one's position within those groups (within them, there is additional a strict hierarchy, of course). Anything that threatens or challenges it is therefore the enemy, regardless of who did what to whom. Conservative justice is about privilege, not justice. Those in power are always right, those out of power are always wrong. The media has usually respected and defended this mentality, as do many Americans. It's as much why CNN has been so sympathetic to the rapists and why we're seeing such anger at the victim, as why so many downtrodden Americans continue to vote for the party that keeps screwing them over. They're been indoctrinated in the conservative mentality, in school, church, in the media, and at home.

It take a "village" to rape a woman too, apparently. It's not enough that she was physically raped, but now she's being emotionally raped.

We can't kill this conservative monster fast enough.

    •  Although it had nothing to do with rape, it is not (13+ / 0-)

just male culture in the US but all over the world.  60 minutes had  a piece about the battle between the Nun's on the bus and the Vatican.  The Vatican wants to silence the Nuns who are asking for a voice.  Women do the work of the Roman Catholic Church but must do it in silence and without a voice.  The nuns are saying enough of this crap.  The old men of the church have destroyed it with their arrogance and stupidity and it is now time for them to step aside.

which apparently has blown the lid off of the a monstrous social problem.

I think Hillary was right - this is going to be the "Century of the Woman."  For every rape we have heard about, there are ten or more we have not.  For every woman who stops her boyfriend or husband when he does something he doesn't care for in bed, there are an equal number who decide that it's not worth it to 1) hurt his feelings or 2) have a fight, so they just decide to "get it over with."

What will the world look like, when women can do whatever we please, without fear of shame, harm, or blame, from ourselves as much as from men?

I think we're going to find out.

meaning until they once and for all begin an active campaign against sexual violence.

No means no.  Too young means no.  A priestly vow of chastity means no.

The best way to stop the spread of AIDS in Africa is to actively work to stop men from raping women through education and the rule of law.
