    It would be unusual for a historian of a particular presidency to happen to live within 50 miles of that person's presidential library.
    While I don't think many presidential scholars decide where to live based on the proximity of their subject's archive, I do think there are some scholars (particularly grad students writing conference or publication papers) who decide what to write about based on the proximity of an archive.

    I wrote a conference paper about the draft speech William Safire wrote for Nixon in case the Apollo 11 astronauts got stranded on the moon almost entirely because the National Archives II site (where the Nixon papers were at the time... don't know if they're still there or if they've been moved to Yorba Linda) was only a ten-minute drive away....
