  •  Good advice, Jim. (7+ / 0-)

I haven't taped any interviews but I was lucky enough to be given a tape of my Great Uncle Ray (my granddad's brother) and his wife being interviewed by their daughter. Ray and Grace were in their late 80s at the time both born in the 1890s. They talked about their parents and some of the silliness they engaged in when they were young. I cherish that tape.

I have two living aunts - one maternal and the other paternal - who I visit and talk to about their childhoods and they stories they were told whenever I get a chance.

I did set up a good enough mic at a family reunion dinner back in '95 that I was able to get some great remembrances there.

What I need to do now is write out the stories of my own life. That seems to be what my daughter is most interested in. I expect that as she gets older and I am gone, this will be a treasure she will cherish, as well.

    Moral: Don't forget yourself.
