    •  Well, you know how it is. (23+ / 0-)

Jesus is THE default human being, so therefore he absolutely has to be a good-looking white male with a killer smile.

Whereas the Devil is "other" (like all of us non-white/non-male types) so he has to be... well.... like the "Scary Black Man" in the White House. All dark and scary and stuff.

Because Ted Bundy was all dark and scary and stuff, too... oh, wait. He was a good-looking white male with a killer smile and charisma coming out his ears. (Met him as a teenager, so I speak from experience.)

It's the same old crap - white men on the Supreme Court can represent the entire country, no questions asked. But a woman or person of color is ONLY representing their non-default human group of "others".

      Gah.

(PLEASE tell me I don't need a sarcasm tag.)

were African American, Latino, female, gay, etc. Wait...you mean they were ALL (self proclaimed) straight white guys?

        Never mind.

on the killing of an unarmed young black male that struck shooter as dangerous.
Paraphrasing wildly it was something like
had to shoot a guy at 7/11. Looked like serial killer, white with (club) jacket
Not that I shoot white guys but it brought a smile at how that compares. We understand a black stranger looks dangeroud, but a white guy who isn't doing anything wrong?

Anyway I was wondering since this is historical bible show, what color were the 42 kids mauled and killed by the she-bears sent by god to avenge them laughing at a bald prophet passing through? And what colors were the bears?

        Ah, that historical bible.

Did you talk long?  What was he like?  Was there a creepy vibe?

        •  He had a ton of charisma (1+ / 0-)

Didn't talk long. I was with a friend, and he said he needed help with his boat. So I walked towards the parking lot with him and my friend, but when we got close enough to see the cars and he pointed out his car, I didn't see a boat anywhere.

I asked him where it was, and he said it was at his house - only ten minutes away. I was so young, and he was so compelling that it never occurred to me to wonder why he would need help getting his boat on his car if he had an injured arm (he wore the sling all weekend, from what I've heard). I thought at first he had injured his arm after boating, so naturally his boat would be at the park.

I still remember basically what he said to me - he said "It's only ten minutes away. Your parents won't even know you were gone."

My friend pulled me aside and said "you can't get in a car with a stranger. Your parents would kill you." (Yeah, I know - funny in a scary way.)

I wasn't about to ride with a stranger in any case, so I told him I couldn't do it. My father was not far away - within earshot. I told Bundy I was sure my dad would be willing to help, but he slumped his shoulders, looked really sad, and said something like "No, that's okay. I'll find somebody else to help me with it."

He killed two women that weekend, and from what I've heard, approached many many more.

There was no creepy vibe - I was young, and my radar for that sort of thing wasn't well-developed yet. As I said, he was good-looking, and had tons of charisma. I walked away feeling bad because I couldn't help. He PLAYED on that. He played on the willingness of people to help a stranger. How despicable is that??

Very very glad my parents were strict about not riding with strangers.
