Apparently, he decided to be responsible for his own misery and anger and, setting an arsenal of high-powered weaponry and explosives aside, settled for one bullet aimed solely at himself.

    Not really honorable, but preferable.

seemed to think that the quick arrival of emergency teams responding to the fire alarm threw off the timing of his plan and he panicked.

I have no moral or ethical qualms about suicide. I'm a firm believer that there is one life anyone should be allowed to take-- their own. I don't really see honor being part of this equation. Perhaps once your brain has gone so far in betraying you that it has gotten you to make bombs and plan the murder of hundreds of people, maybe suicide is honorable-- almost heroic. He could have still chosen to take a few people with him. It saddens me to see someone driven to violence and I wonder about the torment and turmoil this young man was going through. I'm glad he's at peace now and that further tragedy was prevented.

Honorability would lie in his intentions when taking his own life, so we'll never know unless there is a somewhat hastily written last minute note.
I don't know that honor or heroism would qualify in this instance, that would be an objective and personal judgment.

In a local high school where a former schoolmate of mine is principal, there was an apparent suicide by gunshot in the boy's restroom. A note found in the student's locker revealed he'd planned to kill some of his classmates, as many as he could, and did not plan on living long after it. Though no one might really know, it was the belief of the investigators that the student accidentally shot himself while prepping his weapon for the massacre. Perhaps that story taints my outlook on this one. It happened only a couple of years ago.

      I think, therefore I am. I think.
