Huntington Beach Post Office in 1976, people thought it was a great job. I mean my friends were envious. Whenever I told someone where I worked, they would say something like, "Wow. You are lucky. I hear that's a good job." That all changed in the 1980s, during the Reagan years, and you all know why. Over a period of time, people started making fun of me for working there. I was looked down on by many. I became embarrassed to tell people where I worked and tried to avoid the subject. I was not alone. I've talked to other postal employees about this. I didn't figure out why this transpired until about 10 years ago when I began studying history. It is a darn shame, too. I worked with a lot of great people.
