    But will not.
Prison rape is abhorrent and not to be joked about.
Imagine if it were one of your family that was sent to prison?
Many people get imprisoned for small violations, yet get brutalized in the system.
    Bubba jokes disgust me.
Just because they raped the girl does not justify them to be raped.
The prison sentance should be enough, even if in this case it is not long enough.

Gitmo is a Concentration Camp. Not a Detention Center. Torture happens at Concentration Camps. Torture happens at Gitmo. How much further will US values fall? Where is YOUR outrage at what the United States does in OUR names?

      If that was not clear.

    •  They aren't going to prison (1+ / 0-)

They are going to juvenile detention, while not a walk in the park, is much more strongly supervised and safer.  Plus, the offenders are younger, and, one hopes, less hardened.

      •  That is funny (1+ / 0-)

So you think it's safe in the juvenile system?

I am not defending these kids but the institutionalized  do actually get trained somewhere

        •  What would you recommend (1+ / 0-)

as an appropriate punishment/response to their crime?

          I said "safer" not safe.

"nothing pisses me off more than  than people that have never been to jail advocating that jail is the answer."

I'm not saying cut the kids loose or that these girls should be given a pass. I am saying advocating  that it's fine to "lock them up" carries no weight from those that have never faced what happens in those places. I am saying the war on people should end, there is a better approach especially when it deals with children.

in hearing more about your "better approach" and what constitutes the middle ground between incarceration and giving them a free pass.

I don't think I advocated in favor of "locking the girls" up.  I am glad they have been arrested and charged, though, and that this is getting national media attention for two reasons:

              1) It might deter other young people from using social media in such an irresponsible way, and

              2) It should, at the very least, serve as a giant wake-up call to parents to pay more attention to what their kids are doing online.
