like all the other disappointed goppers have.

It's how the Dem party became a pale copy of the Republican.

If the disappointed goppers who think their party has become too nutty REALLY want to help, they should stay in their own party and take it back from the nutters, instead of turning our party into their party (which we are fools for letting them do in the first place--but then I suppose that depends on whether your actual goal is changing social policies, or just winning elections).

from joining the Democratic party. I'm pretty sure we have gotten a lot of the Reagan Democrats back already, only we call them Blue Dogs or DLC Democrats.

Republicans will remain in state offices until even gerrymandering and voter suppression tactics can no longer keep them there, then they will implode, lose by large enough margins to relegate them to third party status, and the real battle for the heart of the Democratic Party will begin in earnest, pitting progressives and liberals against corporatists.

Both sides will think they have enough voters to stand on their own (along with an increasingly large number of Independant voters) and the Democratic Party will split into separate populist and corporatist political parties.
