    a Democrat.

Depending on how this goes, you could see numerous factions in the Republican Party migrate to the Democrat Party, leaving the ideological Republicans (primarily the Evangelical Republicans with a few Corporate Republicans who haven't left) alone in the party which becomes smaller both in size and influence. After a time they die a quiet and marginal death.

As the Democrats' tent gets bigger and bigger, the Progressive Democrats get more and more upset over the party's (already) increasing march to the Government-Corporate Complex. Convinced the party has lost its values, they're left with either redirecting the party back to where it should be, or...

    splintering off.

Of course, I could be way off. Fun part of predictions and possibilities, I guess.

I agree that more of it can still happen to ill effect. The Dem Party is overrun with 70s-style "Liberal Republicans", and they don't have anywhere near as much fealty to the ideals of the New Deal Democrats as we would like them to.
