Yes, there are certainly some Christian ministries/churches that are cults, plain and simple. While captured in a cult, some folks don't realize they're in one. But after travelled in some cults in my youth, I can guarantee you 100% that your friend is suffering.

That's Buddha's #1 Noble Truth. There is suffering, and all of us get to experience a life full of it. The suffering of physical & mental difficulties, the suffering of failed relationships, the suffering of jobs that suck, and careers being stressful and not working out. The suffering of growing up in a dysfunctional family, neglected, abused. The suffering of not realizing dreams, hope exhausted. It just goes on and on. But of course, people trapped in a cult can't admit that they're still suffering, because the cult is the one true way with all the answers to make one successful and happy.

So I guess I'm saying that the RW Christian fundies that drive the GOP, well they're a cult too. There's a long, long tradition of some Christians labelling as "heretic" anyone outside the cult. It has nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus. Christian dogma was established by Constantine the Great to rule an empire.

Acknowledging the existence of suffering is supposed to lead to viewing others with some compassion and understanding. I don't see much of that coming from the GOP.

the Republican brand is totally bankrupt.
