  •  If it hadn't been for the blue dog purges (5+ / 0-)

of the last 4 years or so, this would have been a lot worse.

These idiots are frustrating, to be sure, but let's not forget the progress that has been made on the dem side. There would have been 20 dems voting for this in the house a few years ago.

    •  I don't see how that is real progress (2+ / 0-)

I'd rather we control the house, like a few years ago.

      •  Dems won the house by 1.5 million votes (9+ / 0-)

the gerrymandering that occurred is not Nancy Pelosi's fault. It is, frankly, in part the fault of progressives and other dem base groups who basically ignored the legislative/state elections that allowed that gerrymandering to happen.

Dems have a solid progressive base in the house, an almost nonexistent blue dog faction, and hopefully we all won't make the same mistake in 1014 that we did in 2010 and 2008 when we decided those state level races didn't matter so much.

In any case, the overall makeup of the House dems is improtant in and of itself.

I'd rather have a dem majority, too. I'd rather have a lot of things.

'em. Maybe someday it will do something to change the fact that democrats are by and large conservatives, fight for conservative policies, and basically implement what conservatives want, and that is more likely why some view them as fickle and, essentially, little enough different from the teabillies to matter.

        •  I certainly agree with all you say (2+ / 0-)

However, if we want to win back the house, we will have to have conservative members in some districts.

Your first point cannot be repeated enough. We need to put great amounts of effort into fair redistricting in critical locations like Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania

the House. Because there would be some Conservadems. Who of course are far more evil than the worst Tea Partier.

the fact is we can and should do without these 6.  It's high time we tell these blue dogs, what's left of them, to go fuck themselves and instead focus our efforts on more winnable districts.  There were several districts where Obama won and a GOoPer currently holds the seat.  There are 6 of those in NY, NJ and PA alone plus a few in CA and FL.  We would be far better off trading these more conservative dictricts for Dem reps in those instead.  In addition to that there were 20 or so races where the Dems came within 5-7% of winning in 2012.  Districts which are far less conservative than Barrow's or Matheson's.  We can get a majority without having to rely on conservadems who undermine the progressive policies.

But of course rather than thinking it through more logically and fighting for better Dems in other districts let's spread bullshit and fight each other instead.  Because that will win back a cohesive Dem majority that much quicker.

            •  I hope that snark was for the entire comment (0+ / 0-)

and not just the second two sentences.

The first sentence, if sinecere, is pure fantasy.

What we need to do is make Dems go out and sell their agenda instead of catering to the Tea Party lunatics.

          •  Florida's Fair Districts Amendments, which (0+ / 0-)

passed in 2010, are likely the best this state will see for some time.

            The districts still aren't fair.

And those amendments were opposed by several democratic lawmakers in the state.

But I'm guessing this is another issue where hyperpartisan party-loyalty-purists like decembersue will cry about how mean and evil Republicans are while ignoring the help they get from "our own."

    •  We haven't purged enough (0+ / 0-)

We have a few more to bump if they don't start learning to be proud of their party and it's policies.
