"Ruth Bader Ginsburg - I love you. Please resign right now" is the title of the diary, the content of which was written more as a demand, not an invitation for debating the pros and cons of her doing so.

I understand the diarist has an opinion and was expressing it, but you make it sound as if the above comment was somehow overreacting.

"Open letter to Barack Obama" diaries, do you suppose that he is really reading them, or that the diarists really think that the message is going to reach him?

      •  Which begs two questions (0+ / 0-)

        1) How is the comment to which you initially replied any less a statement of opinion not intended to be read by the Justice, "confused" in your words, than the diary itself, and 2) why do we write these diaries in the first place, then, if we know in advance that their targets will not read them?

Keep in mind, I write my share of these  "they won't read them" types of diaries, myself. So I don't have a problem with the practice, just wondering what it was about the initial comment that prompted the particular reply you gave to it.

        •  We write them to shoot the shit with (0+ / 0-)

our fellow Kossacks. It never crossed my mind that anybody actually thought that open letters were really personal messages to VIPs. The "open letter" diary is just a format, a way of expressing oneself. It is not a literal posting intended to be digested by people such as the president (or at least it shouldn't be). Barack Obama has himself said that he doesn't read the blogs or watch political shows on TV.

          •  No, he has people to do that. (0+ / 0-)

          •  All right. That's one question answered (0+ / 0-)

            Now, for the second one:

What makes that first comment, which was actually participating in this "shooting the shit," so "confused?"

Was it the because it disagreed with the premise of the diary? I'm just curious, because I want to make sure I follow the proper protocol for disagreeing in the future.

            •  I don't even know what you're (0+ / 0-)

talking about, honestly. It's been a long thread and I've been watching TV on and off tonight.

              •  Ok (0+ / 0-)

Just me chattering away about something that a review of the comment thread in which you've been participating would probably fail to remind you about.

                Have a nice evening.
