  •  As many people know, my stepdaughter... (4+ / 0-)

...was raised in Libya after being abducted from Oregon by her father and kept (together with her brother) from seeing her mother for 15 years. Eventually, they were reunited and she came to live with us in Los Angeles and go to school in 2005. In 2006, I was happy to be able to introduce to Kovic during a protest (yes, he still shows up for these) of the Iraq war. It was her first protest march ever since that sort of thing was not something that anybody but the bravest Libyan would do at the time.

He talked with her (with some difficulty because her English was still rough then) for five or so minutes about politics and war while others waited to shake hands with him. He helped ensure, I believe, that she will always be politically active.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.
