  •  At the time, Saddam wasn't totally loved by (9+ / 0-)

his people, but they had some stability before the first Gulf War.  But at first we were liberators to some extent, but the chains that bound the many factions together were broken when Saddam died...  That is when the civil war broke out and everybody hated US for be there.

Now Iraq is a broken country, in the middle of a brutal civil war that we unleashed.

We went in unprovoked.  It was a unnecessary war.  Sooner or later Saddam would have met his end.  Maybe it would have generated a different type of Arab Spring or just another civil war.

In all cases, we should have not stepped in that field of landmines.

      The moral of this song,
Is simply that one should never be
      Where one does not belong.
So if you see your neighbor carrying something,
      Help him with his load.
      And don't go mistaking Paradise
For that Home across the road.

was time to put an end to him, we had no business making that decision for them.  Had a strong opponent to him stepped up, the people themselves would have done what needed to be done.  Our stepping in when there was no such strong opponent has resulted in the mess there is.  Our arrogance.  No, not our arrogance.  Cheney's and his ilk's arrogance and greed.
