  •  Mrs. Kelly in 1961-1962, at Tulsa, OK's Edison (5+ / 0-)

High School.  She taught Ancient and Medieval History. She was my homeroom teacher too.

Oh, what a great time I had in that class--partly because I knew more about the subject than any of my peers. She was an amazing woman--even knew Greek.

She used to say, "Life is not a 'having' and a 'getting' but a 'being' and a 'becoming."

    "Privilege begets responsibility."

I remember Fern Kelly with great affection to this day.  She came to dinner at our house once and, looking at my father's floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, remarked that she was no longer surprised that I was so knowledgeable.

The last thing I ever remember her saying to me was in the presence of my parents, when I went to pick up my final report card after graduation.  "Poor thing," she said lightly, handing me the card, "I think you got straight A's."

Goddess bless her, wherever she is now.
