    I pointed out that a blanket statement was not the best way to approach the discussion.

    The original statement was:

    It was suggested that a more appropriate statement would be that "rapists rape". The response was that no, the original statement was the intended meaning.

    While it is certainly true that the vast majority of rapes are committed by males, the statement could easily be read (I assume incorrectly) that the author meant all men are, or could be, rapists. That is not factually true, and makes the statement (perhaps intentionally) incendiary. My observation is that such overstatements make it easier for those who want to avoid discussing important aspects of this to discount and thus ignore the voices of those who use them.

    Please read more carefully. I am neither irrational nor living in some fantasy world. I do, however, understand how language can be used to advance or impede a cause. That's all my comment said.

    If you have an issue with the point I actually raised, by all means state it and let's examine the question. If you just want to pretend that anyone who isn't yelling firebrand slogans at the top of their lungs is the enemy, that's your choice -- but I won't discuss it with you.
