  •  At least it stayed true to the Star Trek time line (2+ / 0-)

unlike the two new ones alternate time lines that completely wipes out all of the original Trek and all the other shows up to an including Voyager and all the movies time lines including Wrath of Khan so the new one might just as well be the Mirror Mirror reality for as much as it counts for being true Star Trek even if that multi-verse has a good Federation instead of an evil Terran Empire,oh an the new "Star Trek"movies time line also means no Trouble with Tribbles.

    •  The new movies are mere upstarts. (4+ / 0-)

The original timeline is still there. Just look, they still write books set in the original timeline, that PROVES the original timeline is still there. ;-)

      •  LOL! But in all seriousness, the new films (4+ / 0-)

take place in an alternate timeline, brought on by Nero's arrival. Once they explained that, I was totally OK with the new movies. In fact, I enjoyed the fuck out of the last one and can't wait to see the new one.

What we're also forgetting about TMP is that it was the first time Gene Roddenberry had an actual BUDGET to work with, hence the drawn out shots.

I enjoyed TMP for being a thoughtful, intelligent sci-fi flick that asked great questions (like the series itself did), but I PREFERRED II, III, IV, VI, etc where Kirk kicked ass, took names, got it on with the ladies, etc (ALSO like the series).

However, it should be noted, I'm also more of a TNG and DS9 fan, as much as I love the originals.

FYI, the METAL in my name stands for my favorite music. The TREK in my name stands for my favorite TV/movie franchise.
