my advice to my wife and when my girls get older, is to be situationally aware.
The blame should never be placed on the victim. I do believe though that paying attention to your surroundings and not looking down at your phone at night or in parking lots(which a great deal of us are guilty of doing) may direct your attention to a potential threat, and help you get out of that potentially bad situation. I hope my family never has to go through this, and unfortunately we spend way to much time on our phones, whether checking any number of social media outlets, texting or whatever.
A predator is less likely to target you if you let them know you are looking in their general direction because they think you see them, unless you actually see them.
I am not at all placing blame, just trying to get my family to see around them and not be focused on the phone or whatever.
