    You're right.  In fact, hearing about it more often and not having a reliable set of data to place things in contexts should worry us; how can we gauge progress if we can't even measure the extent of the problem?  Our choices are limited to self-reporting like the NCVS, surveying a gamut of convictions that defy classification, or surveying an even spottier record of arrests, detentions or even LEO calls for incidents.
