Filibustered Senate?  A bill like that wouldn't even make the floor for debate unless Harry Reid grows some balls.

      thing called "leverage".

To start with, inform Harry Reid (one of the biggest pork-barrellers in the Senate) that sequester cuts will be targeted to operations in Nevada unless the filibuster goes by the board. He can do that to some extent - certainly, he can ensure that cuts are bigger in Nevada than elsewhere.

And then he can pull the same trick with Republican politicians. Inform them that unless they're going to play ball, honestly, he'll ensure that all those ribbon-cuttings they so adore won't be happening in their districts for as long as he's President.

Likewise, Harry Reid either needs to start whipping his caucus, or to give way to someone who can. Confronted by a Senate that refuses to enable their lunacy at all, the Republicans may just decide to sit down and bargain. And even if they don't, a stern and resolute Democratic Party will send a much different message to the public than the dithering, spineless Democrats one sees today in Congress.

The GOP's playing for keeps - any Democrat who wants to be taken seriously can do no less.

First, pass it with the public. A rull-court press, relentless, with lots of cover for each politician (info on how it will affect their state).

If the Republicans can stir up the propaganda, so can we.

We don't even need to lie about imaginary "death panels"; the cuts in Soc Sec and, especially, medicare, will kill people. Do not talk about "the poor". We may be compassionate, but a lot of people are compassionate with restricts, often racial and often ill informed.

And talk, talk, talk about how this is just one more jobs cutting trick of the Republican party. Jobs, jobs, jobs.

Okay, we don't have the Republican media to help, but just as they've started coming around to realize that that Paul Ryan and his budget are goofy (thanks to one man, Paul Krugman) this can be done. Giving up is a sorry option.

And there have to be many parliamentary tricks that can be used. The Republicans come up with them all the time, and even Reid and Palosi have used one every now and then. Put the thinking cap on and fight, for God's sake.
