  •  This is exactly why those of us in August of 2011 (9+ / 0-)

were saying "DO NOT NEGOTIATE OVER THE DEBT CEILING" and then when we got the deal for the so called "supercommittee" we predicted all along that we would end up right where we are today: shitty options and really shitty options.

Of course, the Obama 11th Dimensioners told us that this was all part of a brilliant master strategy to achieve...well...shitty options and really shitty options.

As an alternative, just imagine where we would be today if we'd held firm on the debt ceiling and then let ALL the Bush Tax Cuts expire. Yeah...we'd have no deficit to talk about and the GOP would have to make an honest argument about wanting to dismantle social programs because they don't like social programs...not because we "can't afford it."

      to fuck us.

But I'm sure the rhetoric of profound regret will be truly moving. How proud I will be to share the pain!

      •  As Obama says "its math!" (0+ / 0-)

As of today, you'd be looking at an annual budget surplus beginning in 2016 and continuing onward without interruption. Because guess why we have a deficit?

        1. The Bush Tax Cuts
        2. The Two Wars
        3. The Medicare Prescription drug scam.

Obamacare takes care of number 3's contribution to the deficit. Obama winding up the two wars takes care of number 2. The only thing left was the big Kahuna, the Bush Tax Cuts.

If we had let those cuts expire without any kind of silly "deal" we'd be flush with revenue. Then we could start negotiating with Republicans over the size of the surplus and using it to create jobs rather than the size of the deficit.

They'd have to make an honest argument rather than the dishonest one that President Obama keeps buying into.

No deficit, no need for a grand bargain, no need to do stupid shit. Stupid shit like the sequester that he signed into law that he said was never going to happen.

And that was exactly the course we were on until chessmaster-in-chief convinced himself that Republicans would NEVER go along with the sequester. Oops. Because really, why on earth would Republicans be happy about a $1 trillion worth of spending cuts?

You all need to face facts: Obama got his clock cleaned in 2010 when he first got rolled on the Bush Tax Cuts and he seriously fucked up by getting scared shitless that the GOP would actually default when Wall Street, Big Oil, Big Insurance, and the MIC (who own and control the GOP) all were saying there would never be a default and the GOP was just bullshitting.

We're here where we are because of bad negotiating tactics and an unwillingness to play political hardball. However, he's turned over a new leaf these days and that's good. Lesson learned. But he, and we, still have to pay for the fucked up decisions of the past.
