    I just meant to point out that we diverted those resources and manpower away from the war we were already fighting, which was idiotic and dangerous, as it overstretched our military and resulted in hundreds of thousands of troops serving multiple tours of duty.  Then I pointed out that we are still there a decade later.  Although it is worth thinking about how things might have progressed or transpired differently if we hadn't kept troop levels at 18,000 in Afghanistan for so long because the neocons were planning for Iraq all along.

    Afghanistan was always going to be a nightmare once we made it our goal of long-term "nation-building."  Look at Afghanistan's history...we were doomed to fail.
