    Otherwise decent human beings will be only too happy to blame a victim if their fantasy world is shattered. If high school football was the be-all and end-all of this town, this case and the facts surrounding it, in effect, told a town of true-believers that Santa Claus didn't exist. Not only did he not exist, he was a pretty bad guy. They don't want to believe it. They refuse to believe it but deep down know it's the truth and they blame the victim because if it wasn't for her, they could still live in their dream-bubble of Friday Night Lights and all that rah-rah bullshit that some people equate with America.

    It's a sad thing to witness. The rapists are little sociopaths with no regard at all for the person they victimized. These townspeople are a whole different animal. They were told that apple pie was made of shit and don't want it to be true.
