We had one dog we could not train. On further discussion with the vet about his adoption, the problem was the litter was born in an apartment where pets were not allowed. The owner was not able to place them and waited until they were 12 weeks old and had never been adequately socialized to other humans, to take them to the municipal animal center.  By that time the one we selected was the alpha male.

We tried very hard but he simply could not break from being in charge. The kids left the gate open one day and he went after a jogger. No physical harm to her but the animal control workers had a really hard time getting him in the truck. The restrictions on taking him back were cruel. We opted to euthanize as no one could have given him a decent life.

As I have looked at these photos, the two wonderful dogs we have had since became almost angelic. Sure they both got into trash if it wasn't adequately covered and did a few other irritating things occasionally. Tame.

Both were really good with other people when introduced by one of us. Otherwise, they were both part Rottie and defended their territory. The first was also German shepherd and blood hound. She was quite the defender of young children. Kept the people leaving handbills on the front door from coming to ours. ;)
