  •  Ugh... yes... must keep that precedent in mind (5+ / 0-)

There is a kind of truism here that once justice is no longer served, crime reaches parity (or better) with playing by the rules, therein undermining the entire social fabric. There are so many angles to this specific industry that I can count on to do the undermining. Scary times.

    •  Scary times? How far back does that time go? (0+ / 0-)

Every now and then  the CIA Operation Ajax comes to mind... leading to the 1953 overthrow of Iran's democratically elected Prime Minister Mossadegh and return of the Shah of Iran

We know plots happen...but this wasn't about a danger to our country or to the people of Iran or any people...
This was a popular, thoughtful, peaceful leader, growing a democracy.

The only threat was to profit of what is now called BP. Mossadegh nationalized the oil and BP said no. They couldn't get the UN to support them
but hey, Eisenhower's' CIA was glad to help.
Threat to America was other countries might try that shit, taking our oil. Excuse me, not "our" oil, it isn't our country that gets rich. It is the oil companies.

The CIA works to help private companies? They will let people die and be imprisoned for life and change the history of a nation for the worse... for the profit of private companies.

I know it isn't the only time and I know we support many bad guys for the good of our oil companies.

      But a troubling echo
the CIA destroys the good of the masses for private company gains at the order of our country.

To whom do I send my regrets?

Scary times indeed... when it gets me to be quoting the bible about love of money being the root of all evil.
(To be true money and power are somewhat interchangeable. Money brings power, power brings money)
