for those of us who go through bouts of hyPOglycemia, coke or pepsi WITH sugar may be the only thing quick enough to keep us from passing out in public.

furthermore, coke syrup has the ability to quell a very distressed digestive system.

no, i don't drink gallons of it - but NO one gets to make some superflous, arrogant judgement over what another individual eats.  it simply ain't their business.

    •  And that passing out is no joke (4+ / 0-)

I've had an employee pass out after not being able to get the vending machine to take her dollar. I had a niece pass out in Wendy's waiting for a frosty. Yes coke and icecream are not the foundation of a healthy diet, but sugar is necessary.

If you have issues with hyPOglycemia, I recommend carrying a gel packet. Even though it might not be as good for you as coke and can be hard on your stomach, it sure beats passing out if you get stuck somewhere.

Aren't covered by food stamps and since they're over the counter, they aren't covered by medicaid either. If you don't have the money to buy them, guess what, you buy soda, or candy and keep That with you. Plus, have you ever seen what Florida Humidity does to glucotabs if the lid comes off and they escape into your purse (shudders)? Also, sodas and sugary drinks are a lot easier to get into a half concious 4 year old whose sugar has suddenly dropped than all the glucotabs or glucogel in the world; especially when their autistic and become extra aggressive/have melt downs when their sugar drops.

the "quick fix" then eat yogurt or cheese for the slower protein and insulin absorbsion.  but the coke keeps me upright!  (or the candy bar - simple sugar - rapid absorption)

then - i start paying very close attention to how my diet became "off"...
