It holds that the current law is not narrowly tailored. The legislature can pass a law that forbids felons convicted of gun-related crimes or even any violent crime from owning and possessing firearms and that law will no doubt be held constitutional.

You are on a roll, MK!

Snark-o-meter caught this one right away! They may have to run a special edition of TC just to highlight your gems.

In fact, LA had this law already and the judge ruled it unconstitutionally broad, so it's conceivable that the legislature will enact something as close to this one as it thinks it can get.

The effect of the law, as pointed out elsewhere, is to preserve the right to own firearms for certain classes and to deny it disproportionately to people of color. Don't you think such an effect ought to be carefully tailored?

that the LA legislature will find it difficult to pass any law as there may be a number of legislators and others that will see it as supporting gun restrictions.  If they do nothing, the baseline is that everyone is allowed unrestricted access to guns.  If they vote for legislation to narrow that, even if just for violent felons, they face being labeled a gun grabber, equal to Bloomberg.

I mean, not being a fancy constitutional lawyer like yourself I can't be expected to understand these things, but "felons with guns" doesn't really pass the common-sense test.
