  •  another great diary of another crazy place in (7+ / 0-)

utah! i had no idea about the extensive geology of dunes - thanks for that! i do feel compelled to mention that from the first time i went there back in the 90s, to the last time i went there, a few years ago, there had been an exponential increase in the frequency of those dang ATV riders.... making the place loud and noisy on weekends. i recommend a weekday, early morning or late evening visit, for quiet and for the colors!

    •  me, neither. . .the geology of dunes. . . (5+ / 0-)

and a rather complicated and entailed subject matter, at that, UTvoter. I never know what I'm getting myself into when prying open a door to this or that national monument, park, state park, or archeological ruin. That's also the fun and adventure I get drafting these diaries. And, of course, I'm learning something new right along with the rest of you. About the only thing you never want to hear coming out of a guide's mouth is "Where's the trail?" HA! The rest of the spiel, as an educator's explanation of this, that or the other thing, is simply a matter of learning, then knowing how to share with others, but make the subject interesting. I guess.

By the way, do you know how to tell when a guide is lying to you (or even pulling your leg)?

His or her lips are moving!

Thanks for posting your lovely comment. And pul-eeze, do not get me started on ATV's and such. When I was with the U. S. Forest Service (Prescott, AZ) I sure had a run-in a time or two or three doing my GPS surveys and topographical mapping. Grrrrrr. And I wasn't even allowed to fight back, badge or no.
