  •  Thank you to dannyboy1, Vetwife, llbear & (6+ / 0-)

all my sisters & brothers and family members of veterans.  Channel 8 has featured this story on their evening news at least twice recently.  I left a msg for the reporter but she didnot call me back.  Both Senator Nelson and Congresswoman Castor sent me release forms to send back into their offices if I want their help.

We are all in this together.

The "off-the-record" discussion of the legislative staff person from VA included an opinion that compensation for exposure to Agent Orange actually represented an example of the nation back-paying out of guilt for not appropriately recognizing Vietnam veterans after their service. His (non-scientific) administrative opinion was that assessment of Agent Orange's impacts did not have adequate scientific evidence. He seemed to believe that Agent Orange exposure was questionable as a cause for the afflictions to which it is currently connected. Not being a scientist, I can't argue that one way or the other, but I'm wondering if he should be proffering such an opinion and if such an opinion, possessed by other administrators affects their decisions on who should (or shouldn't) receive compensation.

get in the way of evidence all the time.  Do I have proof?
A little.   Years and years ago, a VA person on the phone was having a bad day at work.  My husband pre recordings I guess....asked the 800 guy what stage his claim was in..and they guy was rambling about something and said...I just reinstated your 10 percent. Bam.  The next month the 10 percent came in.  Makes one wonder about all of that stuff.  They had been taking his 10 percent due to a hospital stay where they used to pay 100 per cent rate after so many days and he was like 3 days short and they had been taking his 10 percent to recoup what they claimed overpayment.
Well that guy on the phone did something.  That was from 89.

The VA person on the phone told me some other things that he stressed were "just between us," which I thought was unprofessional.  He was angry that day.  He slammed Channel 8 and the media for criticizing the claims staff as he said there are fewer people than in the past and an outlandish backlog of claims and he went on to say that they do not get to tell their side of the story. He did rightly blame the Bush administration - but directed his anger not at the then Secretary (Nichols or Nicholson - an incompetent Bush lackey/donor) but to Bush & Cheney.  He said it will likely take two years for my 1.  Appeal and 2. Claim - to be completed.

In my specific Appeal, I contradicted a very unfair and slanted C& P Report by a VA Psychologist who told me that she did not feel I suffered from PTSD/MST even though I had been in VA treatment groups, individual therapy and under the care of a VA Psychiatrist for PTSD/MST for over ten years - at the same VAHC where she had her office.  She was brutal and she disliked the idea that I was questioning my sexuality back in my USAF days (many were).  It seemed irrelevant to me - but she stuck to her prejudices throughout the C&P report.  Funny thing, she was an Air Force veteran herself.

I had a minute to explain some of this  - Vetwife and my brothers and sisters.  This journey is a tedious and difficult one.  As I said, it took five years of Appeals all the way to the Veterans' Appeals Court in Washington D.C. to be awarded my initial 30%.  President Obama and Secretary Shinseki have made sea changes in the process of claims approvals.  But they have a very long way to go at the VA.

Vetwife you are a beautiful person.  dannyboy1 and others, you are all strong advocates and I thank you for helping all veterans.

and I can't prove it but I am flat out going to say it.
We are being duped.   I know they have the ability to adjudicate.  I KNOW it but cannot prove it unless I could remember the last name of an adjudicator who told me this to my face years ago.   Backlog?   I am beginning to believe this is is a deliberate stall AGAINST this administration as not that much different from the house representatives.   Why do I say this?  They could deny the claim within the 90 day time limit and many a letter of NOD could go out but instead....they hold up the initial claim and then wait an eternity for the first decision and then the same amount for the appeal.  IF they wanted the back log gone.. they could just deny the first claim in which many do anyway.  I don't think I am buying this backlog stuff anymore.  They are making this  up as they go.

the system.  Of course her or his career/reputation/life will be ruined - but that might just be the tipping point.

Again, Vetwife.  You have the gratitude and respect of so many veterans and their friends and families.

              Take care.

a left blog.  Why is the Obama Administration getting
blamed for the longer waits?  See my comment above..
I believe it is an attempt to make this administration look even worse in the beauracratic knee deep paper.

I hope the administration does something fast and make this nightmare stop.  It can be done.
