I am a NamVet, 67/68. I would like to make the comparison to my own VA process in 1973.
I was wounded on 2APR68. In late May I was offered the option of a medical discharge. I chose to remain in the Army. I completed my enlistment in May 69. In 72 I started having severe complications from my wounds. I contacted my VA rep. in December 72. I had appointments for tests in January and February 73. My own doctor filled out and sent, after my signature and an explanation as to why he thought I was entitled to compensation, to the VA. In May of 73 I received my first check. This happened at the Tampa VA hospital.
Today's James Haley VA Hospital in Tampa is a joke. Their 'Doctors' take the Veteran patients as someone to pass along to another clinic. Waiting times for appointments are usually considerable and time spent once you arrive for the appointment seems just as long. Quality of service to ALL of us Veterans has declined almost to the point of laughter. Underfunded, understaffed and the refusal of the government of the USA to fund, to staff and to demand a higher quality of service to Veterans is a kick in the ass to all returning Veterans.

now those who are unfamiliar with Florida and VISN 8 see exactly how things are here.  There is no small battle here in this VISN group.

They need to come into Florida and make the whole VA system get right and start with Florida...I think this 40 something year wait pretty well sums up the quality of service down here.  So sorry.  Now you will fight to keep it.

your care and glad you got it Gary.   That sounds reasonable that you got your disability in that length of time...   My husband could not get much until he moved to another state.and another VISN group.   Seems it has gone so far downhill it is not even the same place.
