In Texas, police shot and killed a man suspected of killing Colorado's prison chief earlier this week. The man, Evan Spencer Ebel (sp?), Had a long rap sheet, and ties to a white supremacist group in Colorado's prisons.

And then there's the story of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. Antonio was with his mother, a sleep in a stroller, just yards from their home in Brunswick,  Georgia, when two teenagers approached them, demanding money. Antonio's mother told the teens she had no money. When the teens threatened her, she begged them to spare her baby's life. The teens shot her twice, and then shot Antonio in the head, killing him.

Sherrie West: (mother of slain infant)

He said, "I will kill you if you don't give me your money." I said, "I swear I don't have any."  And put my arms over my baby. And then he shoved me. And then he shot my baby right in the head." (overcome with grief, weeping)

Dyson: Get your cell phones out. I want to know what you think. Tonight's question: Will Congress listen to the country's overwhelming support for background checks? Text a for yes. Text be for no. 676-22 or go to our blog add Ed at MSNBC.

Joining me now is documentary filmmaker Michael Moore.

Moore: it's kind of rough watching the video tape of that mother.

    Dyson: Oh my God.

Moore: And I wanted to say something, too, about the John Lennon image about Yoko.sending out that tweet. that Incredible statistic that over 1 million people have been killed by gunsin this country since John Lennon was killed.

And, I remember thinking a few years after that. George Harrison, I don't know if you remember, was also attacked in his home, when he was asleep in his bed. But the intruder had a knife, because it's really hard to get a hold of a gun in Great Britain. They were able to wrestle the guy out of the bed. George's wife bopped him with a lamp.

And I remember thinking that night, that the only reason George Harrison is alive tonight, and John Lennon is dead, is that John Lennon chose to live in the United States of America.

    Dyson: Wow. Yeah.

Moore:  He wanted to be one of us, to be an American. And this happens not only to him, as Yoko points out, but to so many others, murders, suicides, accidental guns going off.

It's, it's, um. I want to. Can I just say something else too?

    Dyson: Absolutely

Moore: I know we don't have an agenda here and it's the first time I've been able to talk to you on TV like this. So I'm really honored to be a little do that.

Dyson: I want to clear this up about how I really feel about the gun control laws. I don't believe that the gun control laws that we want pass, and I want them passed. And I am fighting very hard for them. That's not really going to change the problem. And nobody on our side really wants to say that, sometimes. "Well yes no, it will all go away."

Well, no, really, it won't, all go away, because in my movie,  bowling for Columbine, the right-wing attacks. The NRA attacks and I'm on their enemies list. They had never seen the movie. Because if they had seen the movie, the point I made in the film, that I actually kind of agree with the NRA, that quote guns don't kill people." Except I change their slogan to, "guns don't kill people, Americans kill people."

Were the ones who do this. Those Canadians kids tonight, on a Friday night, living up there in Toronto or Vancouver, or Sudberry, they are playing the same violent video games that are played in this country.
