No, you're asking us to have faith that this time the RC Church isn't lying to us. You evidently haven't read the diary, which documents how faith in John Paul II and others leading up to Francis was misplaced.

The Church has ruined its millennia of chances to get the benefit of any doubt. It has proved itself corrupt and lying.

Maybe this pope will live up to the image he's projecting. It's up to him to do it. If he can't do it without our faith, then he's not going to do it. The faith has to come from the people in the Church.

If you're saying they don't have enough faith to change without the rest of us having faith, then they're doomed. Because they're the ones who are entirely defined by it - or should be.

I'm just not imputing thought process into one man's heart based on the conduct of another.

I agree exactly with this. That's all I've said, really.

No, you've also said that we cannot tell what someone will do next, even if we examine their own ample history of action, and that of the organization that they spent their career in and just picked them to head it.

You are saying that past performance is no predictor of future actions. Yet you don't give your wallet to a thief, but you do ask a cop for directions. The Catholic Church and Francis (as Bergoglio) have a far more distinct track record than the thieves and cops in your town.
