    Regardless of any assessment of McGovern's campaign, the idea I was responding to is Kohut's quote that McGovern and McCarthy "radicalized" the Democratic party, and stood in the way of its revitalization.

    The main idea here being that Kohut saw, and still sees, McGovern's stand on Viet Nam and civil rights to be radical in the same way the GOP's current stands are radical. The two are not in the same ball park in any way, and that's what my comment was about. Not the politics of how things went down or worked out in the end.
