  •  There was something useful on daytime TV the (6+ / 0-)

other day.  When the housemate is home for lunch, she has something called 'The Chew' on, with a couple of chefs and so on, and they dyed eggs using pieces of dyed silk, which apparently isn't terribly color fast.  They would wrap the egg tightly in the patterned silk (bright side against the egg), and use a rubber band to tie it off, then wrap that in a white (cotton?) tube sock and tie it off again, then drop the whole thing in some boiling hot water (off the heat) with vinegar in it, and let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes I think it was, before pulling it out and unwrapping everything.  When unwrapped, a fair amount of the pattern from the silk had transferred to the egg shell.
