    We have a number of systems defining ethical behavior. The Law is perhaps the weakest, although it may compete with religion according to some research.

    People don't change their behavior because some egotistic bloviators in a legislature pass laws. Respect of law is really dependent on the law being reasonably close to common behavior. Clearly people reserve the right to enjoy recreational drugs. The test here is whether the drug is scientifically a significant detriment to the health and welfare of society. The prohibition of weed is not acceptable and happened only because of unscientific fanaticism and demagoguery on the part of a few. People know that and ignore the law for the most part. Enforcement is nothing more than random state violence against the people.
