    ought to be risky work. You are saying what is wise in policy matters. So when you are signally wrong, it is a serious blemish on your credibility. Chait should be less worried about the indignity of apologizing and more worried about his own career: How can I keep advocating if, on the most important issue of the last 15 years, I was wrong, and gave the thumbs up to people dying.

    In the old days we could not keep track of recommendations, but today it is easy. Of course, people still have to care ...
