great bricks & mortar places in the East (SF) Bay who take good stuff. One is Urban Ore, founded by Dan Knapp, who convinced the City of Berkeley to let him have first choice of stuff brought to the "transfer station" (=dump) and started a business out of it, decreasing the city's waste in the process. The other is the Depot for Creative Reuse. I complimented a soapmaker at a local art show on the presentation of her soaps, which were wrapped in that kind of cardboard that is corrugated but has only one flat side, so it's rippley. Got it at the Depot, she said. We keep a box for Depot donations and just bring them in occasionally. One item that I collect b/c of that soap maker is the "necklace" from a wine we like and have regularly (Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d'Abruzzo). It has a little lasso of hay or something, with a 2" cut of wine vine tied into it, and the free end stuck down under the wine label. I collect those all together with the other goodies in our Depot box. I'm sure someone out there loves them!

We all understand that freedom isn't free. What Romney and Ryan don't understand is that neither is opportunity. We have to invest in it.
