    In somewhat more successful comebacks, Congressman Tom Campbell gave up his seat to run for the US Senate in 1992 and narrowly lost the primary.  He got elected to the state Senate, returned to Congress in a 1995 special election...

    ...and then gave up his seat to lose another Senate race in 2000.
