Sorry to tell you, but I work in a union shop in Ohio, we have a point system and NO sick days. A doctors excuse is a must for 3 days missed in a row, or you are fired.

While our company is pretty decent about the system, allowing only 1 point for an illness of any length, or a continuing illness, and 3 days off for death in the family, it still sucks.

We aren't allowed to get sick, I guess, and then they tell us "Don't come to work sick". WTF? We do get a point back for every 2 months we don't miss a day, but recently one of the guys who had 25 YEARS without missing a day got a day off for missing time due to health issues. SO your past record means nothing.

But we are lucky, I guess. There are still people who abuse the point system, believe it or not, and continually ride the edge of being fired by keeping 5 or 6 points on the books. They aren't calling off due to sickness, just to stay on the edge.

      Sadly true.
A friend hadn't called in sick or been late for over a year and was told that his attendance record  'met expectations' but there was 'room for improvement'.
      WTF?
Just exactly how much better is possible for over a year of constant work?

I think, therefore I am........................... Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose....AKA Engine Nighthawk - don't even ask!
