It seems a new "concept" is needed for the Navy. Perhaps the Navy should imagine its mission as small, light, fast ships which can protect sea lanes, check for environmental issues, prepare land-based sites in the case of war with a small power, or, perhaps, give up on the idea that they might need to land forces anywhere anytime for any reason. That might be the job of the Army or Air Force, and yet, the Navy has all three; air, land and sea forces.

We are redundant to a degree which is going to make us extinct from credit bankruptcy. THAT is a National Security problem, in my world.

The newest program is the LCS (Littoral Combat Ship,) a small, fast, shallow-water vessel.

      •  And the Littorals themselves are junk (0+ / 0-)

according to reports coming back from commanders and top brass. We need a new concept for the Navy, but most of all, we need to relearn how to build ships!

The contracting system is broken, the manufacturing system is broken and the wise old sages of the bluewater Navy are all gone, leaving the MBA's of Lockheed Martin and Astral to grift on the public dollar and endanger National Security.

We are in a WORLD of hurt.
