  •  I've only shot a rifle.. (9+ / 0-)

...on the firing range at Scout Camp.

single shot, bolt-action, 22 caliber.  With the same kind of attention to detail and safety as the "big kids".  :-)

handling of weapon, accounting of bullets, as well as the principals of "leave no trace."

And you can't touch the gun until you've gone over the safety elements.

from black powder muskets (matchlock and flintlock), pistols, rifles, shotguns, and semi- and fully-automatic sub-machine guns and assault rifles. They were all fun. And every time I ever did it, it was ALL about careful safety. ALL about control and presence of mind. All about knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that one moment of carelessness meant someone, especially ME, could be maimed or die.

Now go watch the Darwin award try outs on You-Tube where the gun losers handle guns like they are toys.

Then tell me we don't need more gun control.

This is the responsible gun handler so many people here claim does not exist.

This is the person who treats the gun with as much respect as they would a running chainsaw, and who will almost certainly never be a Gunfail diary entry.
