  •  I'm not sure how many fantasy books I have on my (11+ / 0-)

TBR shelves. I try to gauge books for the quality of writing and how much I'll enjoy them, without finding out too much about the actual story. So I have a few books which look like they have at least elements of magical realism in them. The Tiger's Wife looks like it probably has some magic in it, as does The Shadow of the Wind.

I'm sure that Anathem, The Arabian Nights and Elric are fantasy.

The biggest fantasy is that I'll ever catch up with my TBR list, which grows at both ends however much I try to put it on a diet.

Perhaps there are mysteries there too. Wouldn't it be great if every TBR book were a mystery until you opened it, if you had a personal assistant who knew your literary taste and bought all the books you most wanted to read, but told you nothing about them? I have one friend who knows my taste well enough that occasionally he'll hand me a book and say "Buy this", so I do. He handed me Gentlemen of the Road, and turned me on to Chabon.

Thanks for linking to my Hemingway diary, cfk.
