    from time to time. I don't remember if the talking dinner animal was in the book, but it was in the teevee series and one of Adams' most ironic moments.
    The animal, presented on a platter and looking something like a pig, procedes to offer different  parts of itself as their entrees.
    Naturally this was off-putting to them, but the animal did actually try to convince them that this was its' whole function in life, to be used as food.
    Very impressive bit of the Adams' mind set, and it certainly made me wonder about eating parts of animals for a long long time.

      Yes, the "Dish of the Day" scene in which the entree introduced himself before being slaughtered for cooking was written for the TV series and folded into the legendariumn.

      Bonus Doctor Who connection!  The Dish of the Day was played by Peter Davidson, who was married to the actress playing Trillian in the TV series.
